With the goal of better understanding fly-fishing patterns and predicting location and ferocity of fishable events, Whacking Fatties presents the Fatty Factor: a fishing success estimation model using proprietary big data analytics. Our team of scientists proudly sets Fatty Factor algorithms to work on behalf of fly anglers around the world, potentially allowing for the whacking of additional fish through increased happy experiences.
Fly Fishing Forecast Model
Generally speaking, we call our fly fishing forecast model, the Fatty Model. It produces the Fatty Factor, a zero to five star rating. Zero stars, means do not go fishing. You will not catch anything. If you do, send us a picture. At five stars, you had better be catching fish because it is as good as it gets. Again, send us a picture. We want to hear it.
Using real-time information on snowpack, weather, and stream flows, entomology, and historical trends, we create a Fatty Factor every hour for each of our ~ ten thousand streams and lakes. While planning your fly fishing adventures, the Fatty Factor is an important tool to give you the best chance at whacking a fatty (and, then, releasing it).
Timing is Everything
For the visiting angler or anyone who cannot be on the river at a moment’s notice, timing is everything. Traditional fishing reports may tell you how its fishing right now, but do not do a great job at predicting what’s going to happen in the future. Furthermore, reports are typically weeks old.
At Whacking Fatties, the Fatty Factor calculates continuously for rivers across the nation. As underlying sources and feeds update so does the Fatty Factor. This provides the angler with the latest information so they can make decisions as to where and when to go up to the moment of departure.
Local Knowledge
Of course, we strongly believe in local knowledge. Your local fly-fishing pro is indispensable. They are out on the water every day. They know the conditions more than anyone does. That is why we created the Whacking Fatties Pro Contributor. These folks are fly-fishing pros. They contribute reports to Whacking Fatties based on their expert local knowledge.
